The 29th Biennial Delegates Conference of the Connexionally Union of Singing Bands of the Methodist Church Ghana is currently underway at the SDA College of Education, Koforidua, in the Eastern Region, under the theme: “Discipleship – Growing into Christian Maturity.”
The conference, which is being held from 1st to 5th October 2025, is not just a meeting of minds and melodies but a sacred convocation to rekindle their vision, strengthen their structures, and recommit themselves to the holistic growth of members, especially the youth.
The Presiding Bishop of the Church, Most Rev. Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, in a speech read on his behalf at the opening ceremony, said the Singing Band has, over the years, been a powerful instrument of worship, evangelism, and fellowship within the church. Its dedication to ministry through music continues to inspire and uplift the hearts of many.
The Presiding Bishop added that the theme is both timely and profound, calling members to a deeper walk with Christ beyond mere membership in the church, to a life marked by spiritual growth, faithful service, and Christ-like character.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said the role of the church in the country’s development journey cannot be overstated. She noted that the church has been a dependable partner in the areas of education, health care, and social services.
Mrs. Awatey said the Methodist Church has, over the years, complemented government efforts in development and contributed immensely to the moral upbringing of the youth in building a better society. Its continued preaching of peaceful coexistence among different religious beliefs has also contributed significantly to the peace the country enjoys today.
Touching on the theme, the Minister said that as the nation faces challenges of youth unemployment, corruption, and environmental concerns, it is only when discipleship meets maturity that it can truly rise to overcome them. She assured the church of the government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with all faith-based institutions in promoting peace, discipline, and development.
