The Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa State and the immediate past President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin has tasked the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong to leave a legacy that can be remembered of by the future generations. He said haven your name added to former ministers list was just a noun but leaving a monument that would be remembered of by generation yet to be born is a hallmark of good leader and urged him to pursue the latter.
He said, Eastern Region was bedeviled with numerous challenges like poor road networks, inadequate School infrastructure, land degradation as a result of illegal mining ( Galamsay), Health care challenges etc. and called on the Minister to work hard in resolving some of the challenges.
Lamenting on the effects of Galamsay, the Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa state, Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin discribed the Community Mining policy as a Senior brother or Uncle to illegal mining which was destroying our forests even faster. He therefore called on the government to review the whole policy or totally stop the programme.
Osaagyefo queried why successive governments have paid lip service to Chiefs’ determination to be involved in critical decisions making such as appropriations of Royalties and issuance of mining licences even though they are glorified as landlords. He expressed hope that this current government would give the needed recognition to Traditional leaders as true partners in development.
He assured the Honourable Minster of his total support and cooperation as he leads Eastern Region to achieve a peaceful and sustainable development.
