Education Service

The Regional Education Directorates are established by the Education Act, 2008 (Act 778), Section 21 and mandate them to perform the following functions:

  1. Co-ordinate the activities of the district directorates in the region
  2. Co-ordinate regional sports and cultural activities in schools in collaboration with the appropriate institutions and authority
  3. Exercise jurisdiction in matters of discipline over personnel at the regional directorate; and
  4. As much as possible, work in collaboration with the Regional Co-ordinating Council

in lieu of this, the Eastern Regional Education is responsible for the implementation of approved national pre-tertiary educational policies and programs to ensure that all children of school-going age irrespective of tribe, gender, disability, religious and political affiliations are provided with inclusive and equitable quality formal education.

The eastern region is made up of 33 Districts and Municipal Assemblies (MDAs) and we believe that, education is the cornerstone of community development and individual empowerment. With a diverse array of educational institutions and a strong focus on holistic learning, we strive to provide quality education to every child, regardless of background or circumstance.

Key Strategic Priorities

  • Close gaps in educational attainments by improving pedagogical skills of teachers.
  • Collaborate across districts/schools to boost students’ confidence, increase expectation and celebrate successes as a region and in individual schools.
  • Enhance supervision to raise standards in teaching and learning.

UNITS

There are four (4) main units and these are:

  • Monitoring and Inspection

The main function of the unit is to monitor and supervise of teaching and learning in Basic and Second Cycle Schools.

  • Human Resource Management Unit

The core function of the (HR) unit is to manage the personnel of the region’s educational workforce. This involves a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring that the region has the necessary staff and resources to provide quality education to students.

  • Finance

This unit oversees a wide range of activities aimed at ensuring fiscal responsibility, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.

  • Planning & Statistics

The Planning and Statistics unit is tasked with gathering, analysing, and interpreting data to inform decision-making processes and facilitate strategic planning initiatives. This unit plays a crucial role in providing insights into educational trends, student performance, resource allocation, and program effectiveness.
