At the General Meeting of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs held at their conference room on Thursday, 20th October 2022 in Koforidua, a ceremony was held to induct three New Paramount Chiefs into the membership of the House.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, who could not hide his joy, thanked God and the House of Chiefs for their unflinching support and dedication to peacebuilding and conflict resolution which had contributed to the historic induction of three new members into the House.

Highlighting the importance of Chiefs to the growth and development of the country, he indicated that the functions of Traditional Rulers as embedded in Article 274 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 9 of the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759) was to “Advise on matters relating to or affecting chieftaincy in the region; Adjudicate in matters relating to paramount stool or skin; Undertake a study and make general recommendations as are appropriate for the resolution or expeditious disposition of chieftaincy disputes in the region” were a difficult task that cannot be underestimated.
He encouraged the House to see to the resolution of the remaining disputes to ensure peace and stability in the region, adding that chieftaincy disputes only derail the efforts in prosecuting the development agenda. “Although, we have numerous natural resources which hypothetically make us very endowed, our inability to harness these potentials into lucrative job avenues, tends to affect the development and growth of our region” he emphasised.
Hon. Acheampong consequently appealed to the Chiefs to support the government’s efforts in the fight against illegal mining; restoring the land and water ecology for the benefit of both the current and the future generations of our dear nation.

The President of the house, Nene Sakite II, the Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area admonished the new members to avoid any form of vengeance on the people they perceived to be their adversaries but rather work to ensure peace, play a fatherly role and to ensure development in their respective communities.

He also thanked the House for their dedicated services which have yielded a positive result of admitting three prominent members into their fold, an achievement he described as historic and a first of its kind in the history of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
He, therefore, called on the members to continue to work hard to help resolve the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the region.
