ASSIST GOVERNMENT TO ADDRESS THE ECONOMIC CHALLENGES- NENE SAKITE II URGES TRADITIONAL LEADERS.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and the Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Nene Sakite II has urged the Traditional Leaders to assist the government in her commitment to finding solutions to the nation’s current economic crisis; “Nananom, irrespective of our political colours, we need to put our shoulders to the wheel to assist the government to come out with pragmatic policies to better a lot of our people.”

Nene Sakite II made the call when he addressed members of the house at their End of Year General Meeting held on 1st December 2022 at the Chamber.
He noted that, despite the current economic challenges, the House was able to undertake its duties.

He disclosed that during the year 20222 under review, the house was able to dispose of four (4) Chieftaincy Cases while an additional four (4) have reached judgment stages to be pronounced in the next sitting.

He, however, noted that the cultural value of respect for the elderly was gradually but steadily being eroded and given way to what has come to be known as a culture of impunity in our body politics where the youth do not see anything wrong to use unprinted insult on the elderly.

He, therefore, urged Nananom to critically appraise the cultural norms and bring back those lost cultural values that held the nation together and give Ghana that unique identity from the rest of the world.
The Honourable Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong commended the house for working hard in contributing to peace and stability in the region.
He said, among the significant achievements chalked during the year was the induction of three new members; Akwamuhene, Okuapemhene, and New Juabenhene into the august House.
He assured that government would continue to work with the house and other stakeholders to resolve the remaining disputes such as Akyem Kotoku and Yilo Krobo Chieftency Dispute.

The minister acknowledged the contributions of the Traditional Authority in bringing sustainable development and improving the standards of living to their people.

Hon. Acheampong, therefore, appealed to the Chiefs as custodians of the lands within their respective traditional areas to stop the reported cases where farmlands were being sold to illegal miners without recourse to its effects on the environment and socioeconomic impact on future generations.
