The Honourable Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong has reiterated the government’s commitment to the development of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as key to the country’s industrialization agenda.
He disclosed that “through government initiative, there has been an engagement through COTVET to provide the technical universities in the country with world-class laboratories that meet industry standards and students with the necessary exposure into the world of work”.

Hon Acheampong made this statement when he delivered a lecture at Koforidua Technical University as part of the 25th-anniversary celebration of her Alumni Association at the school campus.
Speak on the theme “Bridging the gap between academia and Industry” Hon. Acheampong emphasised the importance of TVET as key to driving the needed manpower for practical skills necessary for the country’s industrial development. This, he said, could be achieved through effective regulation, coordination, standardization, and quality of instruction in the TVET.
He appealed to the Technical Universities to liaise with the industries to conduct applied research that would yield practical benefits for society; and called on all stakeholders and industry players to partner government to uplift TVET for sustainable national development.

Prof. Prince Boateng, an alumina of the school and one of the key speakers of the occasion stressed the importance of collaboration between academia and industries in ensuring sustainable development.
He said, while it is expected that the industries provide employment opportunities and practical training through industrial attachment to students, the school should conduct the necessary research and continuous learning through workshops, seminars, and conferences that would provide up-to-date solutions to the challenges of the industries.
