EASTERN REGIONAL OFFICE NATIONAL SIGNALS BUREAU OFFICE COMMISSIONED

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned the Eastern Regional Office of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) in Koforidua.

The office will serve as a key resource for the Regional Security Council, providing data-driven insights for informed decision-making and effective peace and security maintenance.
The Minister, who is also responsible for National Security, said the opening of the office is the first of four NSB Regional Offices to be commissioned this year. It aligns with the government’s Reset Agenda and supports the 24-Hour Economy Programme for national development.
This, he said, represents significant progress in the Mahama-led administration toward public safety and security.

According to Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak, the Koforidua office has impressive capabilities, including surveillance capacity to monitor CCTV feeds across the Eastern Region and access to a network of over 10,000 cameras nationwide. It is also staffed by dedicated, well-trained personnel, including surveillance experts, network engineers, and cybersecurity specialists.

The Interior Minister noted that the NSB utilizes signals intelligence to lawfully intercept, analyze, and interpret digital communications, helping to track kidnappers, dismantle fraud networks, pre-empt armed robberies, and disrupt transnational criminal organizations.
He urged the management and staff to collaborate effectively with other sister security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and improve surveillance of public places.

He assured that the government will continue to invest in, innovate, and empower security and intelligence agencies to protect lives and property, keeping the Eastern Region and Ghana safe.
The Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said the region’s unique geographical position and socio-economic diversity contribute immensely to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

However, the cosmopolitan nature of the region makes it prone to insecurity and threats. The incessant illegal mining activities, with their attendant environmental degradation, armed robbery, and illicit drug use, continue to threaten the region’s security.

Mrs. Awatey therefore acknowledged the significance of the NSB and pledged to commit the necessary resources to ensure its effectiveness in the region.

She said the Bureau has, over the years, played a pivotal role in coordinating intelligence gathering and continues to play a critical role in safeguarding national sovereignty, internal peace, and public safety.

The Minister assured the Bureau of her office’s support and collaboration in maintaining public safety, peace, and security in the region, and urged the staff to work assiduously to justify the investment made.
