The Seventh Day Adventist College of Education held its 13th congregation ceremony at the College’s chapel on Thursday, 13th July 2023, with the theme “Empowering the 21st Century Teacher with Technology and Life-long Learning Skills: The Role of Colleges of Education.”
The Acting Principal of the College, Dr. Cecilia Ofosuaa Odame, emphasized that education is about fostering a love for learning, nurturing curiosity, and instilling values that guide students throughout their lives.
She urged the graduands to create inclusive and supportive environments that enable all students to thrive, regardless of their background.
Mr. John A. Donkor, Chief Director of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, delivered a speech on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong. He extended commendations to the graduands and emphasized that education is the bedrock of every country’s development.
He appealed to the graduands to carry out their duties with humility and pride, recognizing that they will enter the world as teachers who naturally care for their students with selflessness and compassion.
Speaking on behalf of the Education Minister, Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie, Director of Tertiary Education, highlighted the pivotal role of education in the nation’s progress. She encouraged the graduands to work professionally towards the development of the region and the nation at large. Prof. Dzakadzie also emphasized that the role of colleges of education goes beyond technical competence, as they play a vital role in instilling lifelong skills essential for adaptation in today’s modern world.
Representing the Chiefs and the people of the New Juaben Traditional Area, the Omanhene, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, congratulated the graduands on their hard work and dedication to their studies, which enabled them to achieve their dreams. He expressed gratitude to the management of SDA College of Education for their immense contribution to the development of the education system in the region and the nation as a whole.
The 13th congregation ceremony saw a total of 380 graduands in B.Ed. in Early Grade Education, B.Ed. in Primary Education, and B.Ed. in JHS Education. Abigail Baidoo was recognized as the overall best student. Awards were presented to deserving graduands who had distinguished themselves.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Nananom, parents, past and presents students, as well as members of the general public. The event symbolized a significant milestone in the graduands’ journey as they step into the world equipped with the knowledge and skills to shape the future of education and society.
