Public Procurement Authority(PPA) has honoured Koforidua Technical University and Head of the Procurement Unit at the university with citation for their outstanding usage as well as promotion of the Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS) at the closing ceremony of a month long training programme on GHANEPS for procurement officers , Budget officers, Planning officers, Engineers, Internal Auditors and all government institutions and agencies in Koforidua, Eastern Region Capital.
GHANEPS would provide an effective and efficient way of saving the taxpayers money, give wider participation for service providers as a way to increase competition, ensure transparency, reduce the price of materials and supplies as well as provide value for money.
In his address, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister said the public procurement had currently changed to paperless to bring transparency and value for money, noting that, it was the duty of participants to go out into the various institutions to make a positive change in the procurement processes.
He commended participants for availing themselves for the training and pledged his support to make GHANEPS succeed in the region and Ghana as a whole.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Mr. Frank Mante stated that the Government of Ghana was committed to digitization agenda with the introduction of e-procurement adding that it was mandatory for entities to use the system in requesting for quotation, national competitive tendering, International competitive tendering, restrictive and single source tendering.
Mr. Mante remarked that Ghana was the first country in the West African Sub-Region to have established an electronic procurement system for the public sector and the implementation was part of the e-Transform project under the auspices of government through the Ministry of Communication with funding from the World Bank.
He indicated that the PPA had set up a dedicated helpdesk to provide support to entities and suppliers as and when needed and urged all stakeholders to embrace change for the effective implementation of GHANEPS.
