The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, on Wednesday, 26th March 2025, received 47,000 blank Ghana Cards from the National Identification Authority (NIA) to clear the backlog of identification cards in the region. This initiative aims to ensure that citizens receive their cards promptly.
Presenting the cards in Koforidua, the Corporate Affairs Director at the NIA, Williams Ampomah Darlas, noted that in addition to clearing the backlog, a significant number of printed cards remain uncollected at various municipal and district offices.
He urged the Coordinating Council to collaborate with the Information Services Department (ISD) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to make public announcements about the collection of these cards.

Receiving the cards, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, expressed gratitude to the NIA for its efforts in addressing the backlog.
She emphasized the importance of the Ghana Card in enhancing national security, facilitating access to essential services, and promoting economic development. The minister urged all eligible individuals who have yet to obtain their cards to take advantage of this opportunity.

Mrs. Awatey assured the NIA that the Coordinating Council is ready to partner with it to ensure ISD and NCCE widely announce the availability of uncollected printed cards at municipal and district offices across the region.
