KOFORIDUA RESIDENTS SENSITISED ON THE RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT

To enhance public understanding of civic rights, Mr. Wiafe Kojo David, the Right to Information (RTI) Officer stationed at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) organized an informative radio sensitization program aired on Eastern FM 105.1.

Residents of Koforidua and its surrounding areas tuned in to understand the provisions of the RTI Act,2019 (Act 989). The broadcast aimed to explain the fundamental principles of the RTI Act, encompassing its historical context, procedural aspects, and the significance of citizen participation in governance.

The Right to information officer guided listeners through the RTI Act, including submitting information requests and the obligations of public institutions in responding to such inquiries. The session emphasized the importance of written requests and simplified the steps for citizens to exercise their right to access information effectively.

The program highlighted the transformative potential of the RTI Act in promoting transparency, accountability, and participatory democracy. By empowering citizens with access to information. The initiative sought to foster a culture of informed engagement and community-driven governance.

Beyond imparting knowledge, the radio sensitization served as a clarion call to action which encourage citizens to access public institutions and assert their rights under the RTI Act. Through such participatory engagements, the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council hope to bolster democratic values and strengthen community resilience among the populace.

The success of the radio sensitization program underscores the commitment of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council to promoting civic literacy and democratic participation in the Eastern Region.
