A delegation from the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) led by the Foreign Affairs Minister of the organization Mr. Oh Jeung Hwan today, 13th September, 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong in his office in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital, Ghana.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce the organization and the leadership to the minister and discuss important issues that would benefit the region in its quest to develop the area.
IYF was established as a worldwide youth organization and international NGO based on Christian mindset in 2001, to raise leaders with a global insight through youth education, activities, and provide realistic solutions to problems in the global village.
He said even though South Korea has limited natural resources relative to other countries, the country has made conscious effort to prepare the youth in the country and has put premium in developing the mindset of its citizens to think critically.
He added that human resource development has the highest potential to change the world and challenged the youth not to underestimate the importance of developing their mind and adopt the can-do spirit that would propel them to face the challenges of the world and withstand any attempts to negatively brainwashing them.
Giving a South Korean example, he said the country has been able to develop to its current state even though about 70% of their lands is mountainous and have only three months in the 12 calendar year to do planting for food.
He therefore requested the minister to assist IYF to build Youth Training Centers in the region to develop the youth in sports, education, health and other areas of interest.
In a statement, Hon. Acheampong indicated the region’s preparedness to partner with any organization or institution to bring the necessary development to the people.
He said, the region is endowed with youth who are very determined to work to improve on their wellbeing and contribute to the overall developmental agenda of the country.
He indicated that even though the Region is composed of about 5 to 6 different ethnic groups in the country it was one of the most peaceful regions in the country, a viable condition for investment.
Hon. Acheampong consequently assured him of his personal commitment and the commitment of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council to ensure that their vision come into fruition.
Mr. Oh Jeung Hwan was accompanied by various executives of the IYF, namely the Country General Secretary, Ato Edwin, the Country Director Moon Young Jun and the Deputy Director Yang Jae Kyun.
