Eid-Al-Adha: Commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s Obedience and Sacrifice

Eid-Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a significant Islamic celebration that honors Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience to Allah and his willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of devotion. This annual festival brings together hundreds of Muslims from Koforidua and its surrounding areas, creating a vibrant and colorful atmosphere.

The regional prayers took place at the renowned Koforidua Central Mosque.The event attracted a large congregation of Muslims, who gathered at the Koforidua Central Mosque to partake in the Eid-Al-Adha festival, which symbolizes Prophet Ibrahim’s commitment to Allah’s command. Eid-Al-Adha is one of the two Islamic Festivities celebrated annually and holds great significance within the faith.


Leading the prayers, the Eastern Regional Deputy Chief Imam, Ali Abubarkar Abdallah, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for guiding the Muslim community throughout the year. He humbly appealed to Allah to answer their supplications and grant their wishes. He emphasized the importance of unity and mutual respect within the Muslim community. He also encouraged individuals to embrace diversity, fostering inclusivity and acceptance in society. Specifically addressing the youth, he advised them to avoid engaging in negative behaviors that could tarnish the image of the Islamic religion.

During the ceremony, Hon. Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, conveyed a statement on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong.

In his message, he urged all Muslims to remain faithful and true to Almighty Allah and encouraged them to continue praying for the peace that currently prevails in the country.


As part of the commemoration, a sheep was ritually slaughtered at the prayer grounds, symbolizing the moment when Prophet Ibrahim received Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ishmael. This act serves as a reminder of the strong devotion and trust that Ibrahim had in his faith.

The Muslims departed from the Mosque with a sense of optimism, believing that their supplications had been granted by the Almighty Allah. The festival of Eid-Al-Adha serves as a reminder of Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience and commitment to Allah, inspiring Muslims to reflect on their own faith and devotion.
