The 20th edition of the Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival officially kicked off on Friday, April 18, 2025, with a colourful ceremony at the Odweanoma Paragliding Site in the Kwahu South Municipality. The event, organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, promises an exciting blend of adventure, culture, and community spirit.

Representing the Minister for Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Deputy Minister, Yussif Issaka Jajah, encouraged both local and international tourists to explore the unique landscapes and cultural richness of the Eastern Region. He noted that the festival not only celebrates Ghana’s natural beauty but also reflects the identity and heritage embedded in its mountains and forests.
According to the Minister, promoting paragliding in Kwahu is a strategic move to diversify Ghana’s tourism landscape through sports and recreational experiences. Hon. Gomashie added that the initiative harnesses the region’s natural, cultural, and historical assets to increase tourist visits, generate income, and create employment for local communities.

She also called on the Kwahu South Municipal Assembly to make tourism promotion a key part of its development agenda by strengthening public-private partnerships and encouraging stakeholder engagement. She stressed that tourism can play a vital role in reducing poverty and providing sustainable livelihoods, especially for women and the youth.

Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, reiterated the festival’s importance in promoting local economic growth, cultural identity, and tourism development. She applauded all stakeholders for keeping the event relevant and underscored its role in driving job creation and community progress.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, expressed confidence in achieving a higher turnout this year. She highlighted that improvements made to the festival align with the GTA’s “Black Star Experience” agenda, which seeks to position Ghana as West Africa’s leading destination for adventure and cultural tourism.
