79TH REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE HELD IN KOFORIDUA TO HONOUR FALLEN HEROES

On Monday, 11th November 2024, the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, witnessed the 79th Remembrance Day Parade at the Jubilee Park, where security personnel from various agencies gathered to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for global peace during World Wars I and II. This annual event serves as a solemn reminder of the courage and commitment demonstrated by the fallen heroes and highlights the importance of peace in today’s world.

Held in observance of the historic Armistice signed on November 11, 1918, at 11:00 A.M., the event adhered to longstanding protocols.

It included solemn rituals such as the laying of wreaths, the raising of flags, the sounding of a siren, and the observance of the “Last Post.”

Personnel on parade represented seven contingents, comprising two from the Ghana Army and one each from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, representing the President of the Republic, led the wreath-laying ceremony alongside the Commanding Officer of the First Infantry Battalion (IBN), the Chairman of the Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) on behalf of the soldiers, and the Oyokohene of New Juaben, representing the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional area. Hon. Acheampong’s participation symbolized the government’s tribute to the bravery and selflessness of these heroes, underscoring a commitment to uphold the peace they sacrificed to protect. He also highlighted the importance of fostering national unity and safeguarding the hard-won peace for which these soldiers gave their lives.

Ending his address, he called for all citizens to honour this legacy of peace and to contribute actively to a stable and harmonious Ghana.
