The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the Regional and District Departments of Agriculture, hosted a five-day Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair to advance agribusiness in the region. The 2024 Fair being the fourth edition, was held at the Apenteng Hall in Koforidua from 2nd to 6th September, 2024, under the theme ‘Fostering Agribusiness Growth and Youth Development: The Role of the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair.’
The event included an exhibition Fair, a Conference for stakeholders, as well as engagement with some organizations such as Yara Ghana, Food and Drugs Authority, and Ghana Enterprises Agency. Participants also benefited from free health screening and other medical services.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, commended the Agriculture Department and other institutions for organizing the event, highlighting the importance of a multi-sectoral approach in achieving shared goals. He noted that the Fair was held with the aim of connecting smallholder farmers and processors to reliable and sustainable markets.
According to the Regional Minister, the Fair had successfully linked about thirteen thousand (13,000) farmers and small-scale processors to structured markets, since the year 2019.
He encouraged other departments and stakeholders to contribute ideas to make the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair a model for other regions.
The Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture, Hajia Habiba Yusifu, emphasized the need to invest in the youth to build a resilient and dynamic agribusiness sector. She highlighted that the Fair, designed to tackle market access challenges for smallholder farmers and processors, showcased over sixty (60) brands of value-added products and generated substantial transaction value.
She expressed gratitude to the sponsors including Yara Ghana, Legacy Crop Improvement Centre, Pan African Savings and Loans, Food and Drugs Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, Ghana Export & Promotion Authority, and Glova Enterprise Agency for their immense support towards the successful organization of the 4th Edition of the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair.
The program was attended by all the thirty-three (33) Municipal and District Agricultural officers, Regional Heads of Departments, Heads of Institutions, and the general public.
