The President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), Ms. Sena Dake, has urged all accountants to serve as a catalyst in development, driving economic growth and supporting sustainable development. She said this at the opening ceremony of 2024 Accountants Conference which was held at the Capital View Hotel, Koforidua, on 28th May, 2024.
The theme for the Conference was, “Building a Strong, Resilient, Adaptable, and Sustainable Accountancy Profession”.
Addressing the participants, Ms. Sena Dake urged the Chartered Accountants to ensure transparency and accountability in governance and business by recording all financial transactions.
The President of the ICAG also urged members to continue with the practice of providing data and analysis that would inform policy decisions, helping government and organizations to make reasoned choices that drive development.
The Hon. Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong seized the opportunity to commend members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, for their immense contribution to the development of the country. He urged them to be relentless and continue to offer sound and qualitative advice in their chosen profession.
He noted that, Professional Accountants have, over the years, played critical role in the management of financial resources in various institutions and thereby contributing significantly to organisational growth, as well as overall national development. Thus, in spite of the challenges accountants encounter on daily basis in the working environment, they continue to give off their best to ensure consistency and continuous improvement in their service delivery.
The Hon. Eastern Regional Minister, therefore, encouraged the accountants to leverage technology in order to meet the increasing demands of their profession in a digital and globalised economy.
Miss Mamley Andrews, the Chief Director for Ministry of Education who represented the Hon. Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, noted that, continuous capacity building and training of accountants was relevant since the strength of a profession lies in the foundation built through education as it could impact positively on the discharge of their functions.
She mentioned that, accountants could train and mentor others to build their capacity and skills in financial management and accountability.
The Chairman for the occasion, Nana Dr. Micheal Addo, the Nkabomhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, who represented the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, noted that, accountants are doing very well professionally, and also urged them to continue with the good work.
