THE INTERNAL AUDIT AGENCY (IAA) ORGANISED A 2-DAY INTENSIVE TRAINING FOR INTERNAL AUDITORS IN THE THIRTY- THREE MUNICIPAL/DISTRICT ASSEMBLIES IN THE EASTERN REGION

The Internal Audit Agency (I.A.A) held a training workshop for Internal Auditors in the region on 8th April, 2024 at the NASCO Hotel, Koforidua.
The training centred on the adaptation of the New Global Internal Audit Standards, Application of Standard Checklist for Commitment Control, and Auditing of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS)-Based financial Statements.
The workshop also offered important insights into auditing IPSAS-compliant financial reports, underscoring the importance of precision, openness, and adherence to regulations.

Mr. John Donkor, the Chief Director of the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council who delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, said that the publication of the new Global Internal Audit (G.I.A) Standard is a timely guide for Internal Auditors.
He added that the new GIA standards will transform internal auditing by providing internal audit practitioners with a comprehensive framework to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of internal control, risk management and governance processes of organizations.
Mr. John Donkor added that, these Standards served as a foundation for evaluating and enhancing the quality of internal audit practices worldwide.

Dr Eric .O. Osae, the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, expressed his appreciation for the dedication and professionalism displayed by internal auditors throughout the public sector. He acknowledged their hard work in sustaining the economy amidst both existing and emerging challenging circumstances.
The Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency stressed that Internal Auditors must not waver in upholding the necessary ethical and professional standards that govern their profession.
He said as at the close of the deadline for submission 2024 Internal Audit Annual Plan, 31st January, 2024, a total of 157 were in default against over 200 when compared to same period last year.

Dr Osae advised internal auditors to keep their eyes on the internal control systems in their respective institutions as we prepare for the 2024 general election to avoid budget overruns.
He also advised them to support management, external auditors and audit committees to guarantee adherence to sound financial management regulations in the public sector. He said Internal Auditors should not compromise on the required ethical and professional standards governing their practice this election year.
