The Public Works Department is the oldest Department under the Ministry of Works and Housing, and was accorded full government recognition as the sole agency responsible for all public works in May 1886.
The Department is charged with the responsibility of supervising the construction, repair and maintenance of all Government Bungalows, Office blocks, maintaining a Housing Registry and Records of both Landed properties and others, that have not by status been vested in the Architectural and Engineering Services Corporation or the Ghana Highways Authority.
