The thirty-three (33) Municipal/District Chief Executives (MDCEs) together with their Co-ordinating Directors in the Eastern Region, on Wednesday, 7th February, 2024, at the Conference Hall of the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council (E.R.C.C.), Koforidua, signed a Performance Contract with the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council.
The signing of the Performance Contract forms part of the Performance Management System of the Local Government Service, targeted at ensuring improved productivity at the regional and district levels, as enshrined in the Local Government Act 936, 2016 (Act 936).
The Performance Contract enables the E.R.C.C. and the Municipal/District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region to set targets and evaluate productivity in the issuance of their mandate in implementing Policies, Programs and Project of the central government.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong emphasized the need for members of staff at Assembly level to be apprised of the key indicators in the Performance Contract signed, since they execute the deliverables. He added that, orientation meetings on the indicators should be organized for all staff in the Assemblies to acquaint themselves.
Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong stated that, the E.R.C.C. placed fourth (4th) in the 2022 Performance Contract Assessment of the Regional Co-ordinating Councils, which he hoped would improve in the upcoming 2023 assessment. He also lauded the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly for ranking second (2nd) best among all the MMDAs nationwide, adding that, eleven (11) Assemblies in the region had their scores classified as “Excellent.” He commended the MDAs in the region for the impressive achievement since no Assembly in the region fell below the “unsatisfactory” category.
He tasked the MDCEs and the MDCDs to put in effective and efficient measures to ensure that staff perform their duties as expected. He further entreated the MDCEs and the MDCDs to take keen interest in the execution of the 2024 Performance Contract for improved service delivery.
The regional Dean of the Municipal/District Co-ordinating Directors (MDCDs), Mr. Ndinga Nimbronyi who spoke on behalf of the MDCDs, assured the Hon. Minister of their total commitment to the Contracts they have signed and would work towards its successful implementation.
The Vice Dean of the Municipal/District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region and the DCE of Akyemansa District Assembly, Hon. Paul Asamoah, on behalf of his colleagues, also pledged their total commitment in achieving the targets signed, for the success of the region.
The assurance of total commitment from both the Municipal/District Co-ordinating Directors and Chief Executives underscores the collective effort towards realizing the goals outlined in the Performance Contract. With their pledge to work diligently towards successful implementation, there is a strong foundation for enhanced service delivery and development in the Eastern Region.
It is imperative for all stakeholders to remain steadfast in their commitment to achieving the set targets. By fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration, we can overcome challenges and leverage opportunities for the betterment of the Eastern Region.
