The 67th National Independence Day Celebration is set to take place in the Eastern Region, with the vibrant 5000-capacity Youth Resource Centre at Adweso, Koforidua, serving as the venue.
Leading a delegation from the Office of the President, Lord Commey, the Director of Operations and Chairman for National Celebrations, conveyed the decision to the members of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday, 18th January 2024. He emphasized that His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, made this choice to showcase the rich cultural and tourism potential of the Eastern region to both the nation and the global community. Additionally, the aim is to stimulate local economic development. Lord Commey urged the traditional authorities to rally behind the celebration, portraying it as a significant “homecoming” for the President.
In response, Nene Sackitey II, the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, extended gratitude to H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for selecting their region for the celebration. He assured full support from the House to ensure the event becomes a landmark in Ghana’s history.
Afterwards, the delegation, accompanied by the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, and officials of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC), inspected the venue. Following this, they convened with the Regional Planning Committee at the ERCC Conference Hall to outline their observations and anticipations for the forthcoming celebration.
This included the formation of sub-committees at the local level to facilitate efficient planning and organization.
Expressing his appreciation, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong thanked H.E. the President and the National Planning Committee for entrusting the Eastern Region with hosting such a significant event.
He assured them of the region’s preparedness to welcome both Ghanaians and international guests through a series of planned activities commemorating the President’s “Homecoming” on Wednesday, 6th March 2024.
The official launch of the 67th Independence Day celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, 1st February 2024, with the venue yet to be announced.
