The Kabaka Foundation, a philanthropic organization, demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of the community by officially presenting a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Complex, with a monetary value of One Million Nine Hundred Thousand Cedis (GHC1.9 million), to the Eastern Regional Chapter of the Ghana Health Services. The momentous handover took place at the Koforidua Government Hospital.
Dr. Arko-Ampaw, the esteemed Medical Director of the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Kabaka Foundation, under the benevolent stewardship of Nana Owiredu Wadie, who serves as the Nkosuohene of Kwahu-Nkwatia. The newly established Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Complex is a vital addition to the hospital’s facilities.
The Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Wilfred Ofosu, highlighted the immense benefit that this newly constructed facility would bring not only to the residents of the region but also to those from neighboring areas. Dr. Ofosu earnestly appealed to other philanthropists to follow the admirable example set by the Kabaka Foundation and extend their support to healthcare institutions in the region.
Honorable Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, expressed profound appreciation to Nana Owiredu Wadie I for his boundless generosity and unwavering commitment to the region’s well-being. He underlined the critical role of the facility, which is expected to deliver the highest quality of healthcare to newborns. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Complex stands as a symbol of hope, a testament to the power of collective action, and a clear reflection of dedication to the well-being of infants.
Honorable Seth Kwame Acheampong further emphasized that the Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) underscores the imperative of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all, irrespective of age, thus leaving no one behind.
During the official handover to the Eastern Regional Hospital, Nana Owiredu Wadie, the visionary founder of the Kabaka Foundation, highlighted the features of the one-story building. The facility includes an outpatient department, a dedicated children’s ward for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) babies, consulting rooms, a mothers’ hostel, a stable patient ward, a conference room, and several other essential amenities.
Nana Owiredu Wadie shared that his motivation to build this edifice stemmed from reports by nursing mothers and hospital staff. They had been facing significant challenges caring for infants in the hospital due to a lack of adequate space. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Complex will undoubtedly alleviate the stress experienced by both patients and staff while further advancing the cause of quality healthcare for all.
