A 52-year old Emmanuel Opuni from Chia in the Akyemansa District, has been named the overall Eastern Regional Best Farmer. He was among 15 individuals and institutions recognized for their contributions to Ghana’s development, food security, and economic stability at this year’s Regional Farmers Day Celebration at New Abirem.<\/p>\n

He took home a tricycle, a deep freezer, a 50-inch television set, a pair of wellington boots, a wheel barrow, a knapsack sprayer, half piece of cloth, a solar lightening lantern among others as his prize.

\nThis year’s celebration themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening food systems, promoting local consumption, and building long-term resilience in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

The Regional Minister Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey said the theme is not just a slogan, but a national duty and collective responsibility. According to her, to feed Ghana means to invest in the farmers, modernize the agricultural systems, and create a conducive environment where the farmer can thrive.

\nMrs Awatey noted that the theme also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 2, which aims to end hunger and promote sustainable agriculture. She said it is in line with this that the NDC government has launched initiatives like the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project to boost poultry production and to reduce dependence on imported foods.<\/p>\n

The Minister stressed that the future of agriculture and the country depends on the ability to protect the environment and manage the natural resources well by working together to combat illegal mining and promote sustainable agriculture practices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
