All 33 of the President’s nominees for the position of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Eastern Region have been confirmed in one touch elections. The 10-day confirmation exercise, which started on May 6 and ended on May 16, 2025, was spearheaded by the Regional Coordinating Council in collaboration with the Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In all 33 assemblies, the nominees comprising 26 males and six females received massive approval from the assembly members.

\nAddressing the media after the confirmation of the last nominee at Tease in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, the Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, said the process in the region had been very successful, with most of the nominees even receiving 100 percent endorsement from their respective assemblies.
\n\"\"
\nShe said it had been a remarkable moment for her, supervising a successful confirmation of all the nominees in the region. The region, according to her, is not only making history with the peaceful and smooth exercise but also affirming its belief that women\u2019s participation in governance brings diversity, compassion, and a results-oriented approach to leadership.
\nMrs. Awatey said the competencies of the confirmed nominees are not in doubt, as they bring on board a wealth of experience in the Assembly system.

\nShe entreated assembly members, staff of the assemblies, traditional leaders, and all stakeholders to offer the nominees their fullest support with belief, trust, and full confidence that they will work with dedication, wisdom, and courage to champion the development agenda of their respective municipalities and districts.

\nMrs. Awatey commended the party executives and assembly members for their commitment and teamwork. She charged the MDCEs to adopt innovative revenue generation strategies and prioritize the development needs of their respective areas. They should think outside the box to generate more revenue to augment what the central government provides in order to make the government’s Resetting Agenda a reality.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Awatey admonished the MDCEs not to overly depend on the government for everything but rather to use all resources available to them to champion the Resetting Agenda.
\nOn his part, the Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, expressed satisfaction with the smooth confirmation process, attributing the success to effective and constructive engagement with the executives of the opposition party, especially the Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) in the region.<\/p>\n

Common themes that ran through the speeches of all the appointees included unity in working toward a common goal and putting aside partisan politics in their quest to ensure development.
