The Eastern Region had the honour of hosting the National Celebration of the Independence Day Anniversary for 2024. It was held on Wednesday, 6th March, at the magnificent 5000 seater Koforidua Youth Resource Centre. The theme for this special occasion was \u201cOur Democracy, Our Pride.\u201d

\nThe event was graced by the presence of the President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo- Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia and the esteemed Ivorian President Alassane Quattora who was the special guest of honor of the 67th Independence Day Celebration.
\n\"\"
\nIt is truly an honour to have such distinguished personalities, along with the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the Minister of Education, Yaw Osei Adu Twum and other esteemed dignitaries and diplomats, all gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion.
\n\"\"
\nPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo- Addo, made an address at the event. He emphasized the importance of parental responsibilities and urged parents to prioritize the values that make Ghanaians unique. It is crucial for us to preserve and uphold the cultural identity as it forms the foundation of who we are as Ghanaians he said. Let\u2019s take his words to heart and work towards nurturing and preserving our rich Ghanaian values.

\n\u201cI do not refer only to our music, dance, food, languages and fashion that form the basis of our cultural identity; I refer to the value that set us apart as Ghanaians\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the President expounded on the decision to decentralize the national celebration, shifting away from the exclusive confines of our capital, Accra. This visionary has transformed into a nation\u2013 building exercise, allowing us to shine a spotlight on a different region each year while simultaneously fostering unity and togetherness among our entire nation.<\/p>\n

The president emphasised that the eastern region holds a pivotal place in our country\u2019s journey to independence, being not only a significant historical hub but also the proud home to three (3) esteemed members of the renowned big six from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). He acknowledged founders of our nation like Joseph Boakye Danquah, Edward Akuffo Addo and William Ofori Atta and their love of politics which seems to have continued into succeeding generations, with the son of one of them being him (the current president of the country).

\nThe guest of honour from the celebration, Ivorian President Alassane Quattara highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Ghana and its neighbouring countries\u2019 which led to the high turn up of high commissioners from different countries. He lauded President Akuffo Addo for his exemplary leadership skills.

\nThe Ivorian president added that President Akuffo- Addo excelled at the role of ECOWAS President, which is why he did not want his tenure to end. He also appreciated Ghana\u2019s involvement in the success of the recent ended African cup of nations.

\nThe Independence Parade featured 21 Contingents of Security Agencies, representatives from 11 Schools in the Eastern Regions, representative of Government Policies Implementers such as 1D-1F and Free Senior High School Education, as well as Transport Unions, Tetteh Quashie Cocoa illustrations, Market Women Association and various Traditional Groups in the Region. These groups displayed majestic marching skills making the celebration a memorable and enjoyable one. The special group of contingents were twenty- four (24).

\nThe celebration in the Eastern Region was a showcase of rich and diverse culture of its indigenes. The Krobos mesmerized the audience with their Dipo Rites whiles the Akyems performed the Adowa dance. The ewes brought their energy with the captivating Gbogbogbo dance. Cultural troupes adorned in traditional kente cloth, beautifully expressed their heritage through poetry recitals and melodious music. It was a mesmerising display that illuminated the atmosphere, adding a touch of magic to Ghana 67th Anniversary Celebration.<\/p>\n

\nThe Ghana Armed Forces left the audience in awe with their impressive skills showcased during the Independence Anniversary Celebration. From Officers leaping through the rings to captivating air demonstrations of counter-terrorism operations, they symbolised their readiness to protect our nation against any potential threats. Their display highlighted their dedication, courage and preparedness. It was a reminder of the strength and resilience of our armed forces.
