The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council organized three-day comprehensive orientation training for a total of three hundred and ninety-four (394) recently recruited staff. These individuals have been strategically placed across the Regional Coordinating Council and the thirty-three (33) Municipal and District Assemblies in the Region. This recruitment initiative, overseen by the Office of the Head of Local Government Service, aimed to fill vacancies within the administrative structure of Local Government in the Region.

\nThe primary focus of the orientation training was to equip the participants with the necessary skills to enhance their efficiency and professionalism in fulfilling their assigned duties at their respective posts. Commencing on Tuesday, the 21st, and concluding on Friday, the 24th of November, 2023, the training sought to instruct the new entrants on crucial aspects such as the code of conduct, rules and regulations, and organizational ethics.

\nMr. John Donkor, the Chief Director of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, urged the officers to view the Local Government Service within its national context. He emphasized the need for full commitment and staying abreast of its mechanisms to contribute to the realization of the vision and mandate of the Service. Mr. Donkor encouraged the new recruits to embrace technical knowledge, essential for effective performance as technocratic bureaucrats in their respective Municipal and District Assemblies in the Region. Additionally, he charged them with the responsibility of upholding the good reputation of the Local Government Service, considering continuous professional development as key in adapting to the evolving working environment.

\nMr. Cyril Xatse, the Eastern Regional Head of Human Resource, explained that the program aimed to enhance the capabilities of the newly recruited staff by fostering familiarity among them and helping them understand the role of Local Government in the development of Ghana. Stressing the importance of seriousness and commitment, Mr. Xatse urged the participants to work diligently in fulfilling their various job responsibilities within the Local Government Service.

\nDr. Otopa Alexander, the Eastern Regional Director of Finance, advised the newly recruited staff to adopt qualities such as loyalty, teamwork, punctuality, and a results-oriented attitude, which are integral to the ethos of the Local Government Service. He emphasized the need for them to promote and protect the good cause of the Local Government Service through their conduct in any setting.

\nThe newly recruited staff includes Budget Officers, Administrators, Community Development Officers, Planning Officers, Human Resource Management Officers, Physical Planning Officers, Works Engineering Officers, and Procurement Officers. Presentations were made on Local Government Systems, Local Government Protocols, and Cross-Cutting Local Government issues to enlighten them about their new roles.
