Regional Minister acknowledged the current situation with regard to the Galamsey or illegal mining, its undesired socio-economic impact on affected communities, and described it as a major security threat to the Region and the country at large.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315292223_441302821526300_7777722770405439815_n-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"406\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1719\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315292223_441302821526300_7777722770405439815_n-1024x577.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315292223_441302821526300_7777722770405439815_n-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315292223_441302821526300_7777722770405439815_n-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315292223_441302821526300_7777722770405439815_n-1536x865.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315292223_441302821526300_7777722770405439815_n.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><br \/>\n\u201cApart from the massive destruction of arable farmlands, cocoa farms, forests and water bodies brought about by galamsey activities, experts have warned that if nothing is done, as soon as possible, to halt the menace, the time is fast approaching when Ghana would no longer be able to treat her water bodies for human consumption and may have to import potable water\u201d he noted.<br \/>\nHe assured the students that Government would continue to fight the Galamsey menace regardless of its political ramifications and commended the military for the crucial role it continues to play in combating the menace which he indicated that \u201cOPERATION VANGUARD\u201d, \u201cOPERATION HALT I\u201d and \u201cOPERATION HALT II\u201d, have resulted in achieving some positives.<br \/>\nGiving the concluding remarks at the debriefing ceremony to see the students off, Hon. Acheampong indicated that their findings and recommendations would be factored into the regional strategic plans being implemented to deal with the menace.<br \/>\nHe, therefore, thanked them for bringing new findings to bear and also confirming the already established issues in illegal mining activities.<br \/>\nThe Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Rear Admiral Moses Beick-Baffour indicated that the choice of the topic for this year was necessitated by the fact that galamsey and its negative impact has become a major topical issue in the public discourse.<br \/>\nHe stated unequivocally that posterity would not forgive the current generation if nothing was done to salvage the situation which has degenerated to threaten the very foundation of human existence.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315434343_441302711526311_42902184732104140_n-577x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"577\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1721\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315434343_441302711526311_42902184732104140_n-577x1024.jpg 577w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315434343_441302711526311_42902184732104140_n-169x300.jpg 169w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315434343_441302711526311_42902184732104140_n-768x1364.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315434343_441302711526311_42902184732104140_n-865x1536.jpg 865w, http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/315434343_441302711526311_42902184732104140_n.jpg 1153w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><br \/>\nBriefing the Regional Minister, the leader of the team Col.
