{"id":1500,"date":"2022-03-24T08:59:41","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T08:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/?p=1500"},"modified":"2022-03-24T08:59:41","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T08:59:41","slug":"ministry-of-energy-held-national-energy-transition-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.easternregion.gov.gh\/index.php\/ministry-of-energy-held-national-energy-transition-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"MINISTRY OF ENERGY HELD NATIONAL ENERGY TRANSITION FORUM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ministry of Energy has held its Eastern Regional Stakeholders Forum on the National Energy Transition Plan at Capital View Hotel in Koforidua,\u00a0the Regional Capital.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation of this forum follows the successful inauguration of the National Energy Transition Committee on 17th of December, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the forum was to give stakeholders\u00a0 an opportunity to gather information to assess the current situation in the energy sector, the benefits, risks and cost of global energy transition and to prescribe risk mitigation measures among others.<\/p>\n<p>The inputs from this forum and that of other regions will be used to draft the Ghana Energy Transition Plan towards our commitment to the Paris Agreement and the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26).<\/p>\n<p>In his welcome address, \u00a0the Honourable Eastern Regional Minister,\u00a0 Mr Seth Kwame Acheampong \u00a0stressed that it was important as a country to take cognisance of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) seven (7) which is \u201cAffordable and Clean Energy\u201d to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Acheampong also called on the Assemblies to demonstrate commitment towards implementation of activities in their Medium Term Development Plans against climate change.<\/p>\n<p>He urged Municipal and District Assemblies to collaborate effectively with the Forestry Commission as well as other relevant agencies and mobilise communities to actively participate in this year\u2019s edition of \u201cGreen Ghana Day\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The 2022 Green Ghana Day which is slated for Friday, 10th June has been launched by H.E. the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with a target of planting and nurturing twenty (20) million trees on the said day.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore encouraged all stakeholders to take active part in deliberations by coming up with refreshing ideas which would go a long way to enrich preparation of our National Energy Transition Plan.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Transport Minister, Hon Alhassan Tampuli\u00a0 shared government\u2019s plans and preparation towards embracing the usage of electronic vehicles in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>He said, Government was \u00a0developing an electronic mobility policy to guide the development and scale-up of electric vehicles in the country, emphasising that government was working assiduously to introduce the first batch of electric-powered busses for public transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Minister of Energy, Andrew Egyapa \u00a0Mercer noted that global energy transition was characterized by the shift from the use and patronage of high carbon emitting energy sources to cleaner energy sources to attain a NET-ZERO target.<\/p>\n<p>He said government believed that the necessary steps should be taken to put \u00a0the nation in readiness for the fast changing trends in global energy space. This, he explained, was also to ensure that Ghana thrived despite the short and long-term impacts of the transition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry has resolved that fossil fuels, particularly natural gas, will continue to be part of Ghana&#8217;s energy mix. However, strategies will be put in place to increase the share of renewable energy in the mix in the medium to long-term\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n<p>Present at the forum were, the Eastern Regional Minister, Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Alhassan Tampuli, Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon.
